ABOUT US
WHO WE ARE
The Nebraska Federation for Children seeks to empower families, especially lower-income families, with the freedom to choose the best K-12 education for their children. We are a proud state project of the American Federation for Children (AFC).
OUR MISSION
The American Federation for Children seeks to empower families, especially lower-income families, with the freedom to choose the best K-12 education for their children. We believe all parents should have a wide range of high-quality educational options to choose from, regardless of income. AFC works in states across the country to help parents find the options available to them, and push for legislators to pass more programs that fund students, not systems.
“Having the ability to chose the most appropriate school for our children is important because every parent wants their child to receive the best education possible.”
— Lauren Garcia, NE AFC State Director

Before starting her current role as the Nebraska State Director for American Federation for Children, Lauren spent years working for nonprofits training young leaders on college campuses and working with advocates to engage their elected officials. Growing up the daughter of a school teacher, she has always had a great passion for education and helping all children succeed. Lauren looks forward to the day when Nebraska is no longer one of only two states without school choice policy and will work for students and families until that happens.
